Welcome to Take One of March’s Secret Subject Swaps. This week, 15 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

Here are links to all the sites now featuring Secret Subject Swap posts.  Sit back, grab a cup, and check them all out. See you there:

My Secret Subject is: Who was your favorite teacher in school and why? It was submitted by: http://followmehome.shellybean.com

Normally I write funny posts, but this prompt required a more serious tone.  So off we go down memory lane.

Luckily I only had one teacher that truly made a difference, the Spanish teacher at my high school. She once came into the card store I was working in while to college. I was so happy and awestruck to see her. She was now working as a Spanish teacher at the school in the very town I was working. I felt like I was watching a celebrity.

I wanted to major in Spanish, I wanted to be a bilingual teacher. That plan was thwarted though when the college I transferred to for my Bachelor’s Degree no longer offered it as a major. So my plans changed, but my memory of her did not.

She clothes were never wrinkled, her curly hair so perfect around her face, her stories were not only funny but connected to the lessons. She bleached her upper lip and even though you could see the difference in color on her already pale face, it still looked so perfect. She made Spanish fun, she made me want to learn more. She made learning fun, she made feeling successful cool. She was classy and funny. She was what I wanted to be.

Now, while she was a model of great teaching, I must also share the worst teacher at that high school too. I shall call her the troll. It’s not so much that she looked like one, but what she did made her a troll. For one of our history assignments we had to write an essay, I am not great at writing. I need to draft, plan, write, edit, plan again, rewrite, edit and write again. I was in ninth grade and she read “the worst piece of writing I ever have see” aloud. Sure she didn’t read my name, but I’m sure everyone could tell it was mien from my blush. I was mortified and wanted to die as she criticized the entire essay. Let me rephrase, she humiliated me and broke me into tiny pieces and stomped on me. She was a BULLY. That is NOT what a teacher should do. She should be ashamed of herself and I truly hope she never did that to anyone else.

Okay now that I shared a little bit of myself, go off and read the other Secret Subject Swaps.
